  1. II work with bands here in Austin. Unfortunately I can’t mention some of their band names for the sake of not losing them as a client. I only wish they would put a little more thought into it. The odd spellings and names that sound similar to other bands that already have a massive internet presence and following are not a good way to start off.

Another drawback is the results in Google will default to the most common / popular spelling on closely spelled keywords. but It will give you an option to change it to the keywords you originally typed in. This is an extra click to get to the proper results you want until you gain a fairly good net presence. At least from my experience.

I have always liked the thinking of Chris Cornell when it comes to the naming of his bands. Soundgarden and Audioslave just roll off of the tip of your tongue and speak for themselves. Easy to spell, unique. and psychologically appealing. Plus the fact that even if they were not a major act and not famous, typing them in Google they would be very easy to find in the searches because of the uniqueness.

I have given this topic a lot of thought over the years and find some band members actually get offended when making a suggestion. In my business the last thing you want to do is offend a potential client. And I don’t blame them in a way. It could have personal or sentimental value.

    Enjoyed the blog. Good Day

    • Sorry for the delay in getting back to you Drew! Thank you so much for the insight on this – we agree..choosing your band name is so crucial and it seems like a lot of bands don’t put the amount of effort into it that it warrants, but it’s also important to not -only- think about branding and build of a name you feel has artistic merit.

You rock for commenting..we have much more to come!
